It follows group member and dancer Emma Lee gliding her way across NYC subway station platforms in search of a lost bag. The six piece outfit - singers Lee, Jamee Lockard, Layla Ku, Sofia D’Angelo, and instrumentalists Julian Kaufman and Charlie Kilgore - are friends first and collaborators second, with NYC origins that go back to 2018, when they released a smattering of lo-fi tracks in the form of the 'HEATWAVE' LP. After much anticipation, ‘AFTER DINNER WE TALK ABOUT DREAMS’ arrived this year. Like those subway tunnels of “POSE,” this latest album weaves through a metropolis of synth grooves and R&B bops. There’s pop ambition gurgling underneath, too; it’s no surprise Kaufman lists Max Martin as a dream collaborator. It’s the effortless four-part harmonies, however, that distinguish their vibe. Lee’s choreography adds an impressive visual element, too.
